RESOURCE ANALYSIS
Alter, F, Hays, T, & O’Hara, R (2009). Creative arts teaching and practice: critical reflections of primary school teachers in Australia. International journal of education & the arts, 10 (9), pp 1-22.
PEER REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLE
I found this journal article a pleasure to read as it details a sample of primary teachers concerns with teaching the arts (Alter et al., 2009). Teachers were concerned about the time constraints involved in teaching the number of subjects and covering the entire scope of the curriculum; they felt overwhelmed (Alter et al., 2009). This information can be used in my own arts teaching as I understand in practice that I may not be able to cover the entire arts curriculum but if I do my best and concede a bit of the curriculum when the children are having a bad day it should be fine. It can support my teaching by myself being more accommodating to the children’s needs rather than being overly concerned with covering the entire scope of the curriculum (Alter et al., 2009).
